I have a weird relationship with earrings. I can't decide if I want to do mostly high-end, fancy, sterling silver and glory type earrings, or keep it down to earth and make something affordable but still better quality than Wal-Mart (and kinder to your ears!). So I do both.
I also do ear cuffs, which are one of my best-selling items, but they tend to sell before I ever get them photographed, and I'm still not happy with photographing them on the cards. They're super cool, though, and usually no piercing required (I sometimes add a pierced element).
See the Beadweaving page for earrings that fit into that category.
I bought niobium rings when I first decided to make chainmaille, and I was absolutely enchanted with the iridescent multicolored wonder. Unanodized, it's a nice plain steely color, but once anodized the possibilities are endless.
If you're one of those "I can only wear silver (or gold or whatever) earrings" people, please try niobium. Here's the scoop.
Steel, even surgical steel, the generic "something tone" ear hooks, and even a lot of titanium ear findings are alloys, and there is no telling what's in there. If it's nickel, a large percentage of the population will react. Niobium is "physiologically inert" which means it shouldn't react with your body. It is always pure (for now...), and it is an elemental metal, so there's no mystery alloy to react with. It's softer than titanium so less abrasive. It's used for body jewelry (piercings in verrrry sensitive places!) and pacemaker inserts.
And if you think you DON'T have metal allergies, I encourage you to try it anyway. Cheap earrings make my ears hurt. Niobium is comfortable.
Niobium ear hooks are available in plain grey or a huge range of colors (see the custom creations page). Any pair of earrings can have niobium hooks added for an extra $3 (unless, of course, they already have Ni hooks).
